Recently i had purchased two puffers of what i believe to be a happy pair. Me and the fish store owner pondered over what kinds of puffers these are. I believe that they are bioocellatus but some of the characteristics they portray sway towards other brackish puffers.. below are the pictures, if you have any idea as to what they are for sure please let me know!

Yep, they're ceylons.

It's really weird you look at them and they have the spots all over them as if they could be a sabahenis, but a sabahensis does not have the circles on the top of there bodies... If they are ceylons(fluviatilis) would they have spotting on there caudal fin? because my two do. I also believe they are a male and a female. They swim very happily with one another in my tank.

yes i believe those are ceylons as well. very similar to the GSP. no possibly way by just looking at them to tell whether they are male or female. you just have to wait for possibly babies. which most likely wont happen either. most experts havent even been able to replicate breeding conditions for most types of puffs out there. i almost picked up a ceylon as a tankmate for my GSP cause my GSP seemed depressed when i got rid of my second one and mine seemed "depressed" for a little bit. i went to get the ceylon and it was gone. it was labeled as a figure 8 for 6$!

how much do ceylons usually cost at around 3-4 inches?

I'd say around $40-50, unless you find them labeled as F8s. ;)

Really? Darn, should have picked some up  In the LFS they had a ton and labeled them as large F8's and they were quite cheap. They were 4-5" too. I told them they were labeled wrong multiple times but they never changed the sign.

i really wish i had gotten the ceylon and upgraded instead of downgrading from my 75. he was probably a little bit bigger than a full grown F8 and i didnt bother to tell them because usually that pet store(captain nemo's aquarium superstore in norristown, pa) is really good. they were in brackish as well as the GSP's in brackish. they have a whole section or two of just brackish water fish. it is an awesome store so i didnt want to tell them, they find out how much they should be sold for and raise the price, especially when i was looking to go back to get it. but of course it was gone after PP suggested i get it and i went back. i would have loved a 120+ instead of my 54 to take up the current tank space :(
