We have 6 giant danios with our Fahaka just to add a little more movement to the tank. They've been in there for about 4 months and just today Monster removed the tail of one of the giant danios.

I've noticed lately that (s)he's been hungrier than usual. But I never thought that (s)he would have the speed to catch one of the danios. They must have gotten lazy after not having an attempt made on their lives for a while...

I have a school of tiger barbs in w/mine for about 2 years now. Started out with about a dozen--I think there's 5 now...

Large puffers, particularly the mbu and fahaka, can swim very fast when they want. They use their caudal for propulsion then, not just as a rudder as they do when swimming more sedately. The fact that they seldom does this does not at all mean that they cannot. My fahakas could cover the length or diagonal of a six-foot tank in the blink of an eye... and that often meant water splashed out of the tank from the bow wave. They can move!

have ssen that with big diodons as well they lay their fins down and look like a fat torpeado and the caudel fin is flying.

a bow wave huh rtr, no wonder you haev trash bags up over the backs of the tanks.

wonder if in the wild they have ever used that to their advantage when hunting, by forcing the prey crashing into a rock or something so it is stunned and slightly disoriented.

Good thought, but actually the trash bags are just cheap, easily customed, and block the light well in multiple layers. When they get dirty and too tacky looking, an hour or two with scissors an tape and the masks are in good shape again. The electrical strips behind the system and elsewhere in the room do have lighter weight trash bag splash/drip/spray guards over them though.

I have not kept the big SW puffs, but I am not shocked that they are potentially fast as well. Imagine the bow wave off that big head!

haha well when mine is beig enough to cause commotion like that ill let you know, i honestly dont think hes gonna get that big daily to 48 hour feedings and hes still the tyke he was months ago. the dye job and the formor owners must have stunted him badly .

hes only 3-4 inches now counting the tail.

yes, until he dies ill keep him, there is no reason to subject him to any excess issues, and hes happy here, eats well, so ill see what happens. as of right now the customer was given another one that was not dyed. i dont blame them for wanting a guarenteed healthier one, but i cant give up this guy, i can rub his head......

She's always been really small, her mom passed away a few months ago . Her sister is normal sized. She has extra toes too lol.


I've noticed all puffers can be quick if they want to be. Shrimp are quite fast when they want to be as well and most puffers don't have problems catching them. Poor little danio must of been being a little bit lazy though lol.

well Lisalisa renamed my puffer for being so similar to her, to lil lisa, so its official the he is a she, at least for us humans.
