Developing Relationship with Puffer

New to the forum but have looked to you guys many times over the years for advice on keeping puffers. :D

I recently lost my porcupine of three years due to a tank crash after a move. I almost gave up on porcupines but loved my last one so much that I thought I'd give it another shot.
My new porcupine is bigger than my last and waaaay more aggressive. Maybe they get more aggressive with age? Instead of following me around with his cute smile, making eye contact, he bites at the glass. I just don't have the same kind of connection with this one. I know they all have different personalities, and I'm afraid I got one that's more stomach than heart.
Silly, I know, but I figured you guys would understand. Just hoping that someone might have had a similar experience where they developed a connection with their puffer after some time has passed.
Thanks!

How big is he? What size tank? Any tankmates? Water parameters? Decor in the tank? Where is the tank located (near any loud noises)?

Could just be an aggressive puffer, but could also be aggressive because of other issues.

I have a few friends of mine who either have had, or currently have puffers of one type or another over the last several years, and from what I've seen I'm absolutely convinced that all puffers have the capacity to form a bond with their owners. I had a GSP for about 8 years, and although it took him a while to form that bond, once he did he was like a puppy with fins and was easily one of the best pets I ever had. I've had my Hawaiian white spotted toby for about a month now, and he is just now starting to bond with me I think - he doesn't hide anymore when I approach his tank and he quit trying to chomp my hand every time I have it in his aquarium. Make sure that there's nothing about his tank that your new porc doesn't like and in time he will warm up to you.
