Ok, so I picked up some more corals today woohoo. I got a large multi-branched peice of pulsing xenia, radio-active dragon eye zoas, and green button polyps. Thats just the good new I have to share since Im really excited about adding to my reef.

The problem consist of some sort of clear/whitish film (fuzzy looking) thats covering my rock and glass. I can see it flowing in the current as if it was fur. Its not green like hair algea and its not that dyno stuff. I have no idea what it is but its anoying as crap. Just to help with possible ID since its impossible for me to get a pic of it; I just recently came out of my diatom bloom. Is this a type of algea or is it something wrong. All tank params are near perfect. 0 trates and phates. Im clueless on what this stuff is.

Sounds like a fungus. Yeah, a pic would be nice. What fish are in there?

It doesnt affect my corals and doesnt form on the one peice of really mature rock in the tank. The only fish I have is a 2" maroon clown. Im hopeing to add to that in a week or so any suggestions.

If I had a better camera I would definitaly take pics but it wont focus for macro shots.

Maybe developing sponge growth?

hawkfish i have a spotted hawkfish that i really like! how big is the tank?

I agree, all the hawks are great fish. I have a long-nosed. They are said to eat small inverts though.

Its only a 33g tank. I was thinking a dottyback. Will a hawkfish be able to hold its own with the maroon? Im also wanting to add some sort of cleaner shrimp so it would have to able to be nice to fragile inverts.

Maroons are one of the meanest fish I've ever met. Chewed both my 6" GSP's tails to nubs in a week. Dottybacks can be very territorial.

Yah, I know the maroon can be a little tough guy thats why I was thinking dottyback. I dont have any other fish in the tank as of right now and maybe that will end up being a mistake. He has already established his little home. Its all the way to left of my tank behind the biggest peice of liverock I have which I hate because he doesnt really roam around my tank that much. He will zip out grab a peice of food the zip back. That or zip out check out the other side if he sees something move then zip back. He posts up at the top of the rock and chills there. Not really an all out explorer.

Royal Gramma is what I would get, great easy fish.



As for the white junk, I would use a turkey baster during the next water change and dust it off the rocks, then siphon it out. How much flow do you have in the tank, higher flow will help keep many types of undesirable growths off the rocks.

I started with 2 790gph powerheads and that was just way to much. I shaved down the propellers so im estimateing around 800 with both running. Plus I have the skimmer and AC50 running which provides more current. Im due for a water change at the beginning of next week so I will syphone off as much as possible. Its hard to be patient starting off with dry rock. Its between a royal gramma and a dottyback. Im also wanting some sort of gobie or other small bottom dwelling fish.

A symbiotic goby and shrimp would be really cool if you have a very peaceful tank and dont mind feeding frozen food daily.
