Is there any Puffer food that trims the teeth that can be purchased online prepackaged or is buying and breeding snails the only way?

Can you guys please help by posting how you keep your puffers fed? I decided to pair up my SAP (another SAP, maybe 2 more to go in a 55 gallon) instead of letting him go and I also have a GSP (in a 30 gal).

I went to several LFS and none had anything for me. Do they sell frozen shellfish at a reasonable price? I'm hoping to avoid having to keep another tank just to breed snails but if everyone thinks that's the best way, so be it...

Any and all suggestions welcome!

In my experience, for SAPs, snails are the only viable way. The reasons being:

-raw shell on shrimp when thawed become soggy and the shells are of no use
-muscles don't work because they didn't eat them.. even soaked in a garlic puree.. they only ate the garlic
-clams didn't work for the above reasons
-live shrimp didn't work because, again, the shells were too soft
-crab didn't work .. they didn't eat it

that is just my experience but YMMV

i'm going through the same issue currently. new F8's frozen bloodworm and finely chopped mussle (alternated). but the shell food
really does concern me right now.

i bought 20 tadpole snails on ebay for £1.90, plus shipping, they haven't arrived yet but i've another smaller tank that i'm going to try them in.

hoping they'll start multiplying without too much input from me,so to speak


should we feed them snails on a daily basis or less frequently ???

They really should have snails at every meal. A small snail breeding tank is easy to set up & maintain.

Can it be a bare 5 gallon with no extra filtering/warming/etc?

5 gallon bare bottom, a filter is all you really need
you could get away with no filter if you did a lot of water changes

cheap sponge filter!

ok so i've taken delivery of a clutch of little tadpole snails... do i need to look for any signs of disease? or just pop a few in and watch the feeding..

just pop em in
and watch the feeding!
