Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum. I have a new Fahaka puffer I would like you to meet. His/Her name is Opal.

Check out his video at:

I have only had him for 5 days and was wondering if you thought he looks healthy. He is in a 20 gallon at the moment, but I will be putting him in a 150 gallon when it has cycled.

Thanks for your help,

Nice Fahaka, Opal is super dark. What is the pink stick looking thing you where feeding him?

What is the foot print on the 150?

Oh and WELCOME TO THE BEST PUFFER FORUM ON THE WEB

Thanks for responding,

I was feeding him a piece of freeze dried krill. The tank dimensions are 48x24x30.

His colour was dark like it is now when I first got him.

I think the puffer is dark mainly because the substrate is dark..camouflage

she looks on the thin side..

I would feed her meatier frozen/fresh foods and not freeze dried to help her pick up some weight.

Stay away from krill, it causes lock jaw in puffers..

This is mainly in porcupine puffers Eg. Holocanthus or Hystryx. But all puffs need a varied diet.

Not trying to argue, but could you show me a source for this so that I can read it for my own knowledge. Thanks!

Thanks for the advise about the krill (what is lock jaw?).
I have noticed myself that he was quite thin when I got him so I am feeding him a lot.
I feed him fresh shrimp and mussels from the grocery store, I also feed snails daily.
The little bugger has also eaten 2 otto cats and a ghost shrimp that I put in there to help clean the tank.
Is there any other good foods to feed them?

what substrate Is better sand or gravel, black or white?
Is sand really messy to clean because that is what I have heard?

Thanks again for your help,

(just posted a new video on youtube)
