Assassin snails!

Ooooh, I really want to post a picture, but I'm pretty sure my sister stole my camera, so. Well anyway, today I got four assassin snails! They're snails that eat other snails. They wipe out MTS populations like nobody's business. My MTSs are beneficial in my planted tank, but these guys are just too cool. I couldn't pass them up. I'm overfeeding my MTSs and I'll feed the extras to the new guys. I'm also going to start breeding my new blue ramshorns, and I'll feed the ones that I don't give to Thumbelina to the assassins.

Aside from sharing my excitement, I also wanted to say that although they reproduce slowly and I won't have babies for a little while, I'll gladly give a couple to anyone who needs to get rid of a snail infestation. After the pests are gone, you can feed them other high-protein foods instead of snails. They don't eat algae. I have a friend who feeds hers chicken and salmon and so forth.

They're pretty common and seem to breed readily in hobbyist tanks :)

Good luck with them :D I didn't know they'd eat other meaty foods too.

They won't eat each other. But they breed very slowly, and if you get extras, you can sell them for a very good price or give them away.
