Water Flow?

Hello everybody :D

OK so I have taken my 110 gal. Saltwater tank down and washed it to death I think  all the salt is gone  pulled the sump pump out yesterday...
hooked a canister filter up, I have hooked the system up as follows:

Fresh water exhaust is going into the overflow box and making a slight waterfall into the tank and the intake is pulling from the drilled bull head about 2" below that (I am going to drop that down with PVC about 8") the filter cycles 340 gal per hour and 8 hours later my tank is still a little bit hazy

lol I am not a plumber but I have to say I have done pretty well setting this up, maybe I missed my calling :o or not...

so what can I do to add water flow or step this up or do I even need to??

this filter (cascade 1200) was on my 100 gal straight with 4 oscars, and 6 other fish..... when my daughter had it, this filter kept that tank clean so I am wondering about the water flow.... I think I need more flow..... ??? suction is good, output is good and strong, however the overflow back into the tank is slow

Hazy water may be inert particulates, or in freshly set tanks may equally likely be either free-floating algae or bacteria.

The filter capture depends largely on the particle size of the suspended particles causing the haze, regardless of the nature of those particles. Most routine filter media is incapable of capturing cloudy water bacteria at all, or single-celled algae forms if they are small-cell types (the commonest in tanks with cloudy water IME). It takes specialized filtration to capture those critters, generally diatom filtration. But routine media may be able to capture some or all of the haze once the media has been in operation for some days, due to bacterial and debris build-up on the filter media itself.

Hazy water conditions are common in new setups. I would wait a few day before radically revising my filtration practices and see whether or not the haze clears.

Thank you RTR,

you are right- I have forgotten about those small buggers.... do you think a magnum HOT would take care of it?
