this is JUST like my puffer!!!!

we used to own a stars and stripes (arothron hispidus) and we saw our new guy advertised as a s&s ..... but hes not! defo.

he has almost all stripes, but not a narrow lined stripe. with a few small spots near his tail. but defo not a spotted like in Stars and stripes

The picture ive used here isnt of my puffer but one ive found whilst trying to research. and the guy has the same problem, being told his is a stars n stripes, then a Arothron manilensis or reticulated puffer but they seem to have narrow lines or perfect circles, and pointy noses? which mine is like a S&S but hardly any spots and rings around his eyes and greyish dark patches on light grey skin!????

will try and get better pics

Not really sure what kind he is. My S&S has mostly all stars. Mine also gets blotchy like you said but it goes away depending on the mood... like you said:) I think most S&S have yellow too don't they?

i think so, even when our old puffer (S&S) was small he still had loads of stars!? and mine is ALWAYS that grey blotchy colour, not with his mood
maybe he is a hybrid?

Yup A Reticularis just like the logo fish Star. They will be a greenish grey color when younger and turn to more gold when older ( at least Star did)
ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Marine/A_Reticular ... _.jpg.html
They get huge I know the Puffer Pedia say's min. of 180 gallon but I say more like 250 gallons min.

I don't know much about the marine puffers, so I can't really give a guess. :(
