So I found out my puffer was now out of the shadows and caves a little bit because he was about to die. I looked up and there he was just floating around with the current He was still barely alive so I pulled him out and he went really dark and I noticed some odd discoloration on his face/side. There was no blistering/ulcers/open sores on the body but I snaped a few shots anyhow before I went and finished him off. Please take a look and tell me what you guys think, dose this look like vibrio? My clown seems to be doing fine but I will deff be keeping a close eye on him. If the clown is still fine after several weeks do you think the tank is ok? or am I going to have to scrap the whole tank reguardless?

Yes, that is what it looks like. So sorry for the loss of your cute fellow. I'm not sure where you go from here though but I wouldn't purchase another puffer until you find out. How long was this guy held at the shop?

I'm not exatly sure how long he was at this store....3-4 days + and he looked fine at the store and a week + in my tank. I suppose all I can really do is observe the clown, do some large WC's and give it time and try again.

You can just pick those up at the grocery store... The cheaper stuff is fine... mussels, prawns, all that good stuff... even a bit of white fish wouldn't be a bad idea once in a while, but make sure you give it food with shells often enough to keep its beak worn down.

EDIT: Not only does using feeder fish pose a huge threat of introducing more pathogens to the tank, but Goldfish are hardly nutritious, being composed of amino acids entirely different from those saltwater fish use. Also, fish will do little to keep a Puffer's beak in check.
