Well Folks, we made it to Michigan and upon seeing a 29gal reef biocube setup available for a good deal on Craigslist, we gave in and bought it!
It came with a clown, a damsel, a wrasse and some corals. So far so good, but I guess unless I can find an already acclimated gsp, I can't have a puffer
If anyone has any ideas, let me know!

I'm not sure exactly what the question was but that tank is not suitable for a GSP anyways.

You can acclimate a GSP fairly quickly, over several hours or perhaps a day.

But, your tank is too small for one GSP, especially with the clown, damsel and wrasse..

Perhaps you could try a valentini, but I am not sure how it would work with coral...maybe someone else knows?

Why is it not suitable? Is it the size? Of course, I realize GSP are generally not reef friendly, I would be willing to sell/give away the fish and corals for an acclimated puffer

Even if you got rid of what is in their..it is still a cube...not a good shape for an active swimmer..

I agree, 29 just isn't big enough for a swimming Nerf ball. Why not just try your hand at reefing?

We had every intention of getting a bigger tank and doing puffer(s) once we got here, but during the very long and exhausting move we decided we wanted something more compact, and my hubby has wanted marine for a long time; the biocube fit the bill.

PufferPunk...that is a hilarious description I am definitely going to try my hand at reefing; even though it wasn't my original intention, I have already fallen a little bit in love with the current fishy occupants
Anyway, thanks everyone for your support and advice. As I've said before, I always want to put the fish before my own selfish pleasures. If the tank is truly not good for puffers, I will not get puffers, as sad as that is...

Pufferpunk, thanks! I just bookmarked that. I have also joined captivereefs as they seem to have a lot of members in MI.

Also, http://www.michiganreefers.com. There should be a MI reef club forum on RC too. I know a lil about reefing myself.

Oh yes, your reef is a huge point of inspiration for me! Money is tight though, so the coral buying will have to be one $10 frag at a time, maybe once a month if I'm lucky!

I think you'll find it easy to fill a 29g. Don't forget corals grow!
