I've had these gsp's for a little over a month. Right now they're in a 20Gallon tank, and when they grow i'll move them into a much bigger one.

Kudos for a nice looking tank, but these guys need to be in bigger tank ASAP. Grow out tanks are for stunted fish.

Hi,
How soon can you re-home them in to a bigger tank. They also need 30 gal min. each
your puffs look great

"Personally" I dont think a 30g is enough to keep a GSP happy. That would be the bare minimum but Personally I dont think its enough. It takes my GSP very little time to use a whole 60g long to himself and hes only 2.5 inches! Very agile swmimers and curious investigators! Your puffs look fat and healthy. Good on you for rescuing them from walmart. Good job on the nice look the tank has to. Cheers!

thanks everybody. I think i've done pretty good research, I could easily say i'm obsessed

I absolutely love these guys. If it were up to me, i'd run out right now and get the biggest tank i could get my hands on, but big tanks are somewhat expensive, considering the one they're in now is a 20gallon reptile terrarium that i had prior to ever even thinking about fish.
i'd love to say i could have them in about a 50 gallon tank by the end of the year. Is it absolutely necessary for a larger tank right now, or would it be ok for me to hold off until almost this time next year?
also, when buying an aquarium, is it good to have a wide tank? one that i am looking at right now from petsmart is a 50gallon that is: 48 1/4"L x 12 3/4"W x 20"H...which is only about an inch wider, but probably a good foot longer and probably 8-10 inches taller than the one they're in now.

This is in my opinion (IMO) and others may disagree but here is what I have to say.
IMO, according to the spots on your puffers they are moderate growers (speed wise) and will get fat and round before getting long...so big fat puffers need a big tank..
You will be so surprised how much their behavior changes (for the better) once settled into a bigger tank.
I use to rescue GSPs when I could, I stopped because the survival rate is low for damaged puffs..but when I did do that I would put them in 20 gallon tanks for hospital and quarantine. After a few weeks they moved to bigger tanks....and boy did there personalities begin to shine!!! Less glass pacing, more interaction, and speed swimming!!!
When it comes to buying tanks, go for used..and use your local Craigslist...you should be able to find a 55 with the works (filters and lights) for around $150.

wow really? how can you possibly tell by the spots? does that still mean they'll still get about the full 6"-6 1/2"?
i did find a 50gallon tank with lights for $130 at petsmart.com but my worry is that it's not very wide...but it is taller and longer.

hold up ... you can tell by the spots if they are slow growers or quick?
We definitely need photos and an article written up on that!! That would be so beneficial!

I am no RTR nor a Corvus or a pufferpunk...
Just an observation, not scientific fact!!! That is why I said (IMO)...
I have my own GSPs to look at and the pictures of other member's..that is where I get my "opinion" from....

Ok everybody, it looks like I could be buying a 55 gallon tank from a guy in a few days. I'm getting it extremely cheap too

I was wondering if this would be suitable for my two gsp's? I found it on craigslist and the guy said it's a standard 55 gallon (48"Lx12.5"Wx18"H)...but to me it looks a little small. This would be a fantastic deal if it is the real deal. I could be wrong about the size but I would like to know what you all think.

Those dimension are right and it looks like a 55. Does it come with filters? Two AQ70s would be nice to hang on the back.

A 55 will do but I found it to be too small for my 2 large adults. You have some time for that though.
