whats the difference with spots ? my big one as little spots all aroun like a Giant Spotted Puffer but i know hes a GSP..and my little one has the normal big spots of a GSP... Any of Them is a better breed? What should i look for when choosing another one?

It has nothing to do with quality, it's just a personal difference. Some people are white while others are black or brown or yellow etc. We're all the same, we just look a bit different

There's also a very large possibility that many of the fish sold as GSPs are either morphs of the same species or are similar but different species. I don't know much about it but if you're interested I'm sure someone else could expand on that

Just looks like a different pattern. Kinda like how cows have different patterns, doesn't mean each is a new species.

They look tiny when younger. But they get absolutely enormous!

I think the differences are just evolutionary differences among different groups of GSPs coming from several different places/rivers. Different pattens camouflage (defense mechanism) better in different places. Natural selection at its finest

But I would not get one more in that 65 gallon..

The markings on the two puffs you have I associate with faster growth..get big really fast. (IMO) They also seem to prefer lower salt levels, but I cannot prove that..

Hi lucf20 I see you are from Ottawa, Kingston here. Anyhow as purplecandle pointed out unless you are willing to upgrade your 65 gallon is good for just the two you have now,I wouldn't be adding another one.

My spot patterns do not determine my "quality," they vary quite a bit between us by our nature.

Yeah, that is natural selection and evolution, specifically fitness..

Now that GSPs are being bread in captivity, I would assume we're going to see some selective breeding in the near future or our children's future.

I agree...probably breed them to be/stay small..more marketable that way...but I suppose that is better than taking them from the wild...
