Ok, I am not sure if what we got is a Monotrete cochinchinensis or Monotrete turgidus. We are still working on getting some better photos, but have a few. She is very active during the day; for the most part she swims the tank most of the day and then settles down for the night. The store had it listed as a Mekong Puffer, which seems to be listed with Monotrete suvattii (she is definitely not a suvattii), so I am lost. Thanks!

Mekong could imply turgidus..

But what is bothering me is the eye spot. L!$A had what she thought was a turgidus, turned out to be a cochinchinensis, however, she spoke of blue spots...the eye spot for a turgidus is typically the same color as his other spots...and unless I am seeing things funny your eye spot is very distinctive against the other spots...I am sure it is the camera making the spot look like that. But, if you look directly in the center of the eye spot..there appears to be a red spot..tiny..

Therefore, to me..your fish looks like Rocker's in the pufferfedia..my vote is for cochinchinensis

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

The eye spot is distinct from her other spots. It glows a blueish on a regular basis when she is a dark color.

Its either a Cochinchinensis or a Turgidus.I would be inclined t go with Cochinchinensis on first glance of the face but a side shot and the more bluey target and markings on the side make it look more Turgidus. So im now thinking Turgidus. These 2 can be very difficult to distinguish. As for the Mekong description ignore it, its a generalisation of where they got it from. Abeis are labelled the same.

If the spot is black it's a turgidus, red a cochinchinensis

I vote for M. cochinchinensis. The spot does not have to be read. Kottelat who described and sampled a lot of these two species clearly says about the spot "sometimes red". On M. turgidus the spot blends in with the other spots.
