HI everyone, I am new to the Puffer Forum today, but have been a fan of all things puffer for years. Today I took the plunge, and collected my Baileys Puffer from my local shop. His name is Harry the hairy puffer, yep I know very original, and he don't do much yet, just geting settled in, but I love him already, what a fantastic fish, and he cost a lot too, but worth every penny. Would love to hear from other hairy puffer owners, as you don,t see many of them here, i feel very lucky to get one.

I'm afraid you've seen about as much action as you will from that species. Kinda like a "floating turd".

Be sure to make him a cave to hang out in. A flowerpot on it's side will do.

Hi gingerbailey and welcome to the forum. I've got a Baileyi, one of my oldest puffers, although my girl isn't very hairy unfortunately. My Baileyi has her moments where she will swim around and then go and settle back into her terracotta pot. She either likes hanging out in her terracotta, or the PVC pipe that I have in there. It's funny because the PVC isn't long enough to cover her entire body, so she will just put her head into it and act as if she can't be seen.
My girl has become very picky when it comes to taking food, let's hope yours isn't as particular.
Any chance of you posting a pic of your new puff?

Did you by any chance get it from the shop on Great Portland Street? If you did, they've been calling it Cow Pat since it's arrival. LOL

Hi, gingerbailey! I'm relatively new to puffers, myself, and had to look in the Pufferpedia to see what your puff looks like... it amazes me how many different puffers exist! I'd not seen a picture of your type of puffer before.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Well i'm still loving Harry the Hairy Puffer, and concerning his lack of activity, I have been pleasantly surprised ! Everytime I went to see him in the shop I never once saw him move, but since geting him home he is pretty active, not all the time, but he is a morning puffer, and till early afternoon, goes on quite a lot of forays round the tank exploring. His favourite trick is to swim from the bottom of the tank to the top, flick his tail and send water flying all over the wall and sofa. Luckily all the electrics are out of the way Bzzzzzzz ! By the way, I know i keep refering to him but have no idea what sex it is, just seems to be a boy to me ???? On the food side he hasn't eaten yet, well maybe a few cherry shrimps i left in there from the tanks previous incarnation, there were so many its hard to tell.

I've got a Hairy too, and I refer to mine as a "she" even though I have no clue what sex the puffer is, so I can relate.

Read the article in our Library about how to get your puffer to eat. He's used to live foods, so it may take a little patience.

I read a brief article from practical fishkeeping about the Baileyis habitat. Rocky crevices and fast flowing water, I quite like the idea of that as a tank setup, how much you will see your Baileyi with a setup like that is probably not a lot though unless its feeding time.
