Hello, I have had my fahaka for 1week now and he stays on one side of the tank near his cave. I have him in a 125 gallon tank and he still has not even explored it yet. I took the other fish out except for the pleco. He also just swims on the bottom. I have never even seen him swim halfway up the tank. Is this normal?

Does you fahaka eats normally?

IMO it might be still in a little shock. I think you should give it some time, but just my opinion.

Yes I have been feeding him bloodworms and krill. He loves the krill.

I think he just needs time to acclimate to where he is now, but having said that, my Fahaka never used to explore his tank much either when he was younger. He does now, but he's also much larger. I think if your Fahaka isn't too big, he's probably unsure of going away from where he feels safe.

Just a note -- you really should start feeding your guy more substantial foods. Try giving him raw shell-on shrimp, mussels, cockles (I open them), snails .... to name a few. I don't think bloodworm and krill is enough, but that's just my feeling, and if I'm not mistaken, there's some argument about krill having some unwanted side effects. Perhaps someone else can elaborate on this a bit more.

my guy tends to hang out behind a rock, or under another one. Only exploring for a few mins then goes back into hiding.

Yea Im pretty sure the freeze dried krill can cause lock jaw although not very common. I use frozen krill. Isnt a fahaka a lurker species so Im pretty sure whats happening is normal. Unless the tank parameters are off in any way.

Krill is krill. Still needs a much more varied diet.
