Here's my baby!

The lighting conditions and photo quality in these pictures vary... the puffer subject is my GSP, approximately four months old, who lives in a 26-gal bowfront aquarium at 1.018sg, with three ghost shrimp.

Awesome looking tank, GSP looks nice and fat.

davew, I did put the ghost shrimp in there so that he'd eat them, but many weeks later, he still just swims slowly around them, eyeballing them and sometimes snatching away any food scraps that they recover from his messy eating habits. I started referring to the three shrimp by the names "Breakfast", "Lunch", and "Dinner" so that he'd take the hint.

i't's probably only a matter of time until he eats them, i had a red clawed crab in with my two gsp's and he was in there for about 5 months then suddenly they decided to eat him

I had a huge Panther crab in with my Mbu for several months, and although BeeBoo didn't actually eat him, he did bite him hard enough to crush his shell and thereby causing his death eventually. The odd thing is that the crab would often sit out in the open and BeeB would ignore it. I guess it was too hard to ignore one day.

Beautiful Tank. So natural. Only suggestion I might give is if you intend to keep him BW id lower the SG a TAD(JMO). My GSP seemed to have a greyish coloring between 1.015-1.018. I keep them in marine levels now but if I was to go back BW id prolly keep him at 1.012-1.014. MArine did make mine perk up and be less grey. Other than that your tank is one of the better ones Ive seen lately. Very nice. Makes me want to re-do my FW tanks. Sure u didnt have a fancy aquascaper stop by?

SammyDee, seems like mine's grey comes and goes... mostly present when he thinks I'm going to feed him. I assumed it was his war-paint for hunting dinner. He's often paler yellow-green in the a.m.

I like the idea of taking him to 1.020 to see how it benefits him... I'll confess that I'm a little intimidated by the thought (and the cost) of a protein skimmer that I assume is necessary at marine levels. I need to read up on the equipment to get more familiar with what's involved.

Very kind of you to say! I am an out-of-work training designer/tech writer at the moment, so maybe I should consider an alternate career path... (jk, but how cool would that be, to make a living at aquascaping?!)

Seriously I have no doubt youd be fine in SW if you made that tank. IF you did consider the SW path, try CL. I bought a skimmer,sump with bioballs and return pump for 150$. Not the best stuff in the world but it does the job i need it to do and well, so thats all that matters to me. You should have a look on Youtube at "LAFISHGUYS" how to setup a reef tank. Plus he has tons of other tutorial like videos that are all worthy being an actual TV show thats how well theyre put together. Just try a search for LAfishguy and watch some of his vids when your board or try lafishguys.com Youtube loads faster thou. He helped alot for me when I was trying to understand the different equipments and there purposes. It just was easier to see it all in action and actually learn from it.
