Got my F8!

Post by CarmenH »

I just finished drip acclimating... Now he's exploring his tiki tank :-) I asked the girl at the shop to feed them, then picked the little sucker who grabbed the krill and protected it from all others!

Mmmmm...new puff (unnamed so far) LOVES littleneck clams as much as the bigger puffs. I hand feed much of their food with hemostats to keep things tidier. I brought it down to him at the back corner where he was exploring, to try and get him used to it (I figured he'd be scared) and he latched on and followed it all the way up to the front top. He would have eaten more but I took it away, his tiny tummy got full so fast! I'm used to bigger fish!

It's mostly the angle in that pic. He's not too bad, and he's got a much rounder tummy now since eating. He also pooped and it didn't look like what IP poo is supposed to look like. I plan on dewoming him anyhow, once he's settled in and consistently eating well, since some of the tankmates at the store were skinny.
He's about 1.5". He has a 20g to himself, I don't plan on getting tankmates for him. He's in freshwater, like the store had him in, until he's settled at which point I will gradually raise it to 1.005...

Is the rock formation on the right side a "sand waterfall"??

No, it's not sand, it has a hose for the air pump to attach to, and I guess the bubble movement is supposed to look like a waterfall? Completely silly, and stupid overpriced, but it made me laugh. I was literally wandering the fake plant and ornament aisle at Petsmart...by myself...giggling while I collected goofy stuff :-)
All my other tanks are natural, but since I really don't expect to do real plants in this tank, what the heck!

I would have decorated the opposite, covering the filter intake with the rock wall ornament & having the open section on the right.

Yea, I know, but this works for the long-term plan. I have more "plants" on order for Wednesday... I didn't want to buy *too* many at retail when I can get them at cost next week :-)

Actually, I really like it the way it is (just the opposite though), with the open swimming room.

I just can't see the palm tree on the right side for some reason. And putting it in the middle would look funny. Anyhow, I plan to re-arrange regularly to keep it interesting for him so I'm sure I'll try every possible set-up down the line :-) Don't want to do too much right away and freak him out. Although he seems fairly unflappable...
His tank is in the LR right next to my seat on the couch. I just turned his light off and as I type, he's doing the puffer-wiggle. Hoping that I'll notice that he wants a bedtime snack, I guess.

Great themed tank! IMO, I'd place the palm tree almost in the middle of the tank to break line of sight.
