If you literally just got him, I would wait a few days myself, let him settle in -- unless he's looking really bad and in dire need of medication. Otherwise, after he's had time to settle, it probably wouldn't hurt to do a treatment on him. Most people have good luck with Jungle Parasite Clear fizz tabs (myself included). If you use like 1/4 of a tablet and soak the food in it for about 15 minutes or so, and then get your puffer to eat the treated food, he should get a good dose of meds inside him.

Yes, he does look a bit thin but most LFS don't feed them properly. Get him eating well & see if he fattens up & if in a week he looks the same or has stringy poo, then you should definitely treat him.

what do they like to eat. I tried to feed him ghost shrimp and a red claw crab but now they are inhabitants of the tank because he did not touch them. He will eat some bloodworms but does not go crazy for them.

How big is he? How did you cycle the tank?

he is about 3 1/2 to 4 inches. I cycled the tank with biospira and fancy tail guppies. I have had this tank up and running for about 9 months now with no problems.

I would try krill or a piece of shrimp. If that doesn't work try a worm, I don't have a Fahaka but our GSP loves them.

My fahaka went on a 2 week eating strike after I moved him. Give yours time to adjust.
