Just buy one, they're only around $1.

Agreed, you'd probably spend more on parts to make one than you would just buying one for $2.

I suppose if you have an old filter intake guard and suction cup with clip, you might be able to do something with that, but I'm guessing the slots would be too big. It might help slow them down a little.. maybe?

I use "shower baskets" And then put them where filter flow will get to them, or aim a powerhead at it. This allows me to feed many cubes at once. And it's super sturdy and cheap. The link I'll provide is NOT the cheapest. I found some on amazon for $1 each. Ordered a bunch for my fish room.

They work way better than feeder cones in my opinion. This simply allows the cube to melt and spread out evenly to all the fish. Most times when I used a worm cone, not all fish would be up to the challenge of competing with the tank mates for taking the worms from the cone.

Not a bad idea but it's never good to defrost a cube of frozen food in your tank. You don't want the "juice" it's stored in to be in your water. That adds a load of crap to your nitrate.

yeah your best bet would be to use the cone as a strainer and then sit it in the water. once its defrosted. you dont want all that extra juices in your water it will be an uphill battle with diatoms. i tried one of those before and i didnt really like it. the holes are small, really small and bloodworms didnt really fit through that well for me. i modded it a little and cut a little hole at the bottom of the cone because its actually closed off. that did the trick wth releasing worms. but then my GSP got impatient and just bit the cone and knocked it off the side of the aquarium so i just gave up on it

Also, the cones are pretty much useless for dead worms. The fish just don't see them sitting in them. The live worms wriggle out through the holes.

my GSP would see them in there, he just would get frustrated i think trying to get them since they were still kind of protected. and yeah they werent live bloodworms so i had to assist on the escaping

Very strong +1 to both PP' comments.

Cones are for live blackworms, not for frozen/thawed foods, period. They are ideal for DPs and a number of other smallish fish on that good food item. IMHO, they are worthless for anything else - more an invitation to pollution than a useful tool outside their design purpose.
