Hello all!

I had an outbreak of Ick - my DP developed 3 spots

I did a little research, and my plan is to raise the temperature, raise the salinity, and to give the puffer 1/2 the dose (tank buddies ick treatment).

Before I embark on this plan, I just wanted to confirm that this was the best way to treat?

The DP is in a 10 gallon tank, 7.4 PH, Amonia Nitrate and nitrite all come up clear. The tank was cycled fishless a couple of months ago and up until yesterday the puffer had quite happily lived in the tank for 2 weeks. The only change to the tank was the addition of three threatfin rainbows (one of whom also just started showing signs of Ick, and are the likely culprits for brining Ick into the tank).

From what i have read alot on here the medicinal treatments are not great for you tank. Just raising the salinity and useing aquarium salt will do the trick. Aswell as vacuming the substrate everyday.

Agreed. Look in the library and follow the Ich treatment article (salt and heat).

Puffers are very sensitive to medications, and its best to avoid them whenever possible.

plus if you have any live plants the meds may kill em iirc

Salt and heat may kill many live plants too The tougher species will be okay.
