how do you get good fish pics? mine are never good. i know its not my camera i have a nikon D90 and i take very good pictures and all. but my fish pics arent very good.

I have to use the flash with mine, and have it on the setting for close ups, and action... I also don't take photos straight on, I angle my camera so that the glare from the flash doesn't give feedback - either aiming a little down, or a little up... or a little left/right -that can make it look a little distorted though.

Guess im lucky, i just set it to the up close setting and point and click lol

Bloat is pretty good about just sitting still for pictures, he doesnt care about the flash either

Use the "macro" setting with flash .... it's usually the little flower icon. Works wonders for me.

i've noticed my digital camera always works for that.

at risk of sounding a bit geeky, I'd got for a higher f-stop so that you've got a decent depth of field to
capture a moving fish. If it's too narrow (low f-stop)then you'll end up with sharp substrate and a blurry fish!

So I'd choose a mid-way f-stop like f8 or even f11.

If you're doing this, however, you'll need to up the ISO as there's less light coming through the lens.
ISO800 or above really...

don't know about the f-stop, but I shoot at ISO1800 and was told it was too low. You need ISO 3600+

When taking planted tank shots (like Amano), it is ISO 50 or 100 with the tank under high powered lights or a photo box :/

actually, i shot these with a iso of 200. because i had the off body flash, i didnt need the extra light. i got good results with f-5.8, its not super low, but when i focussed on the fish, it created a nice selective focus. you just have to be careful that focus is on the fish

but with no flash, you would need a high iso
