I have a DP and all has been eating are brine shrimp, and an occasional snail (mayb once a week). I was wondering if this diet is good for my puff? I also tried feeding him blackworms but he just stares at them until the disappear into the substrate. He mostly eats his food from the bottom of the tank and will even wait for the brine to (hide)until he starts eating them. So i would like some suggestions on how to get him to eat the blackworms... Oh btw i only feed him live food. Thanks in Advance :]

I am not certain "only live" is the way to go. Very risky.

have you tried frozen blood worms?

Dwarf puffers aren't like most other puffers where they just blindly attack food. They like to circle and stalk their prey. That's what it sounds like your's is doing, to me at least.

To make yourself feel better and not waste so many worms, buy yourself a "worm cone". Its a floating cone shaped thingy with small slots. You put the worms in the cone, they slowly work their way out of it and the puffer can pick them off as they come out. Under $2, so no excuse to not get one, hehe.

Mine were very picky eaters and only liked live blackworms or new life spectrum small fish formula (a good pelleted food), but they also had lots of live snails and shrimp to hunt down in their heavily planted tank :)

My DPs seem to like frozen mysis shrimp. I feed them those once a week or so. I've also heard that some DPs will eat frozen glassworms (although mine wouldn't).

Brine shrimp are not very nutritious.

I feed DPs only live California blackworms via a cone, and live snails. They also had some frozen/thawed bloodworms until i became allergic to those.

yep just freeze them to kill any hitch hiker parasites in the food. If its already frozen well then its not necessary. Try those and maybe shrimp raw with the shell on still.
