I Posted on MFK about the bump and someone said they thought the puff was pamlembang..so I tried to get better pics..and viola..the puff lightened up!

Trust me, NOT a Palembang. I'm leaning toward Fang's puffer.

Fang's has a red spot near it's tail. I don't see that. I say turgidus.

My guess is also a turgidus. Its eye spot is not very distinct.

Yea! I have got a very rare unicorn turgidus!!!

I agree 100%, Turgidus. That eye spot should show a little better once he settles in.

Yeah forgot about the red spot for the Fang's .... it was the colour that had me thinking that's what it was. One day I will get these target puffers right.

Turgidus or similar (longer snout again makes me lean away from Turgidus).

Young M. turgidus can have a red eyespot by the way (it will blend in with the other spots with time). M. cochinchinensis however can have differently colored spots (although red is the most comon), but their eyespot always stands out in terms of size and color (a real target) and does not blend in with the other spots.

I don't think the snout is long. I use the eye diameter as a reference to compare it with the snout. The snout of this fish is about 1.3 eye diameters, I'd call it short, personally.

Yes, I suppose the snout isn't that long, I was looking at that last photo but I think its the angle that makes it look that way. That and the big eyes, little guy has a lot of growing to do!

I think the second picture would fit nicely in the pufferpedia. In my opinion it's very typical compared to the original specimens the species was named for.

with the exception of that 3rd eye Sorry I couldn't resist!

Could you imagine someone looking through the pufferpedia to ID thier puff...and they see a unicorn turgidus LOL

Plus its tail is jacked up...

Maybe when he gets nice and fat
