Hello eveyone I would like to If the fish listed are compatibile with a mbu.

Silver arowana
Cichla Temensis
Fire eel
MSF cat

puffers are generally kept on their own... or in species specific setups.

I kept my last Fahaka with silver dollars, an oscar,tsn's, and a pleco. They all got along fine.

My new Fahaka which I've had for a day now is coexisting with my convict cichlid withouth any confrontation.

I have seen many people keep Mbu with other fish. I just want to know if the fish I have generally get along with the Mbu puffer.

What happened to your "old" Fahaka?

I traded him back in for another fish. A very big mistake. After I returned him I realized how rare a docile Fahaka is. So now I have another Fahaka which is definatley showing some potential because he's being kept with a convict right now without and fighting. What else should I try keeping the Fahaka with? He's swimming all over the tank like he's on drugs. He's also attacking the crayfish I put in their for him. He seems to lose intrest in it after a while though.

So what do you guys think about the tankmates for Mbu and Fahaka?

Just wait until he feels totally comfortable in that tank... Then see if he still seems docile!

Why do you want tank mates?
It's pretty unusual for a community tank containing puffers to work in the long term. Particularly with fahakas--one day you'll wake up and all the other fish will be half eaten, or just maimed and left to die.

Mbus are supposedly much more gentle, but they are still liable to attack and kill other tank mates on a whim. Not to mention the fact that I would think these spectacular fish ought to be the center of attention.

well mbu puffers and fakhakas are not known as tank destroyers for no reason. however if you wish to try tankmates get fast ones that are large and not overly agressive to each other and have short fins. generally large slow moving fish are great as well since mubus look for bite sized pieces to try and are less likely to attack fish thier size (though they dont stay small for long...)

The reason why I got a Fahaka puffer is that I wanted a solatary fish that would grow large and be very personable. The reason why I'm asking for tankmates for him is that he dosen't seem to be agressive at all. On the contrary it seems as though he is getting punked by a convict cichlid.

My 240g has silver arowanas and peacock bass. The arowanas have grace. The bass are the ultimate feeders. The Mbu is the top fish in the tank since he brings beauty and a personality to the tank. I like fire eels and I feel that I need a catfish to make it complete though. What do you guys think?

Also since my Fahaka isn't very agressive (yet ) do you think he will murder 2-3" guppies in a 75g?

There is no way for us to be able to tell you whether your fish will turn out to be a killer or not. The percentages say yes though.

IMHO & IME, the comptabilty of both fish with tankmates is zero. Limited term compatabilty doesn't count - let me know about any full life cycle compatables you run.

I don't know why I'm getting such varied opinions on this qestion. I hope that my Mbu, which will hopefully be in my tank in an hour or two, is not going to be insane but one of the calmer specimens of Mbu. Only time will tell and so I guess I wil experiment with either a convict or a community fish like a gourami.

Well, youre not...

Though most experienced Puffer-owners agree upon that individual traits such as level of agression surely varies from specimen to specimen,
they also agree upon four solid facts:

1.
Agression level will more often than not intensify with age.

2.
Any living creature sharing tank with a puffer may and/or will probably fall victim after some time.

3.
Puffers are wonderfully equipped to do serious damage to other living creatures.

4.
Puffers seem to do best when offered a species tank as their captive enviroment.

Gentle disposition is neither here nor there.
Puffers are territorial and will act according to their nature.
Simple as that...

Actually, buy posting this Q on many other different sites (which he is), you may get different opinions. I think we're all in agreeance at this site though

I moved the Fahaka to its 75g which has 9 fancy guppies in it. The tank was originally a reef tank so it is pretty wide and tall as opose to long. The tank also has a lot of mts which the Fahaka loves to bite. The Fahaka has been in the tank for about an hour or two now and hasn't even chased a guppy. I threw in a 1.5" ramshorn but he didn't get it because it rushed into the plants before it was spotted. I'm going to try brine shrimp and blood worms and I'm going to try frozen krill tonight. The Mbu is in the 60g and is eating a 1" ramshorn as I type. He's a little black in color but not much different than the many pics I've seen of juvenile Mbu. I sure hope he becomes the vibrant yellow and black I know Mbu for.

Woland what pufferpunk said was what I meant. This site seem to agree that Mbu will kill all other fish as well as Fahaka.
