Ok im sure im going to get on yalls nerves here lol. But I have desided I am going to stay freshwater, love the plants I have to much to chance killing them all in brackish. That being said I cant afford a bigger tank so I have to go with smaller puffers and like the SAP's.

I have a 55G, how would yall stock it? How many SAP's and what other type fish in it? Oh all my numbers are good, my PH has dropped down to 8 from 8.4 about a week ago. I dont know what my hardness is yet, waiting for my test kit from my exgf, or to call my water board and ask them.

It sounds like you have it all narrowed down finally!
And who's to say, once you really get into the puffer groove, down the road you can find the room and a tank for one of those larger puffers you want! I think SAP's will be quite happy as well and make you quite happy, though!

Ya got it figured out, now just to figure out how many and what other fish can live peacefully with them.

Hm, no clue there. I'll take notes though, as I'd like to have some someday. In the meantime, working on a 5.5 gal for a solo DP on my desk. I feel lonely in here

I would put 3 or 4 in a 55. I think it'd be best as a species-only tank, but I have seen them coexist with various tetras like black skirts and neons.

Alright i finally made my mind up and have a LFS ordering some SAP's for me . I had 1 pond snail in my 55 to start with, and some MTS's, but I noticed yesterday 5-6 baby pond snails roaming around. Should I pull them out and put them in with my Beta in a 5 gallon or just let them hang out and get eatten? I ask cause I saw the thread about puffers eating till they pop.

Just remember, SAPs are -very- neurotic and high energy. They'll pace, glass surf, etc. If this will annoy you then don't get them

If you want to breed the snails, pull them. If not leave them. Your SAPs are not going to burst My 3 (Flutter's) went through over 100 in a week. Now, I have to reestablish a breeder tank for snails.

Flutter thats just what I want, I dont like a fish that just sits there or moves slow. Thats why I got rid of some cichlids me and my exgf, and restocked with tetra's(of course I got kicked out shortly after lol).

J-P thanks for the info. I may catch a few of the ponds and move them over to let them do thier thing. Leave a few for a midnight snack for them

They'll enjoy that. They are stunning predators. Very dedicated and very efficient.

i would stay away from MTS, i heard they can be too hard and break a puffers teeth

really? that sucks,ive gottem in my tank to help keep the sand from compacting to much
