I found this really cool DIY tank stand. I am considering making one for my 45g LROWF tank. At the moment the tank is in my bedroom but we would love to bring it out into another room for better access and to make cleaning and water changes easier. What do you guys think of it?

If I do decide to make this tank I will post pics as I work on it. Im thinking I might get the supplies around the end of this month maybe, but we'll see. Gotta find a place to get the cinder blocks from.

It looks pretty decent i would probable use some sort of spackeling to smoth the cinder block though since they will still that that concrete texture. But i really do like the one with the 2 gallon tank underneath it, it would be a good spot for a snail breeder tank and it would look good too.

I love that stand! It's a great idea, and it really does look nice! I like the idea Bcummings gave, to add spackle to smooth it out. You could paint it any decor, and the idea to have it work so a breeder fits underneath is just an amazing idea. So many DIY ideas out there I'd have never thought of on my own... Of course, you'd want to make sure it was level, as with any stand - and the top strong enough to support a large tank... I'm thinking maybe I'll have to bookmark that for future reference (for when I get my large tank!)

I am really excited to build this stand. It'll be nice to get my tank out of the bedroom so ppl can see my awsome gso's Nibbler and Chunky lol. I will update more about the stand once I get more supplies, I have 2 x 4's and plywood already here from the on going renovations we're doing. I also have sealent paint to protect the wood if it gets wet.

I just showed the stand to my boyfriend, I told him that if we don't find a tank WITH stand that it's alright, we can do this and make it match anything we have going on in whatever room it ends up in... I'm so excited!

Stacking cinderblocks is a great way to make a stand. I often recommended it to budget minded customers when I worked at a LFS. That one isn't bad, but for the minimum amount of work, you can just toss up a few stacks of cheap cinder blocks(with 1/4" home depot plywood between each if you want shelves below the tank) and top it off with a properly cut piece of 1/2" to 1"(depending on tank size) plywood, and just toss a cheap department store plastic tablecloth(or two), over the whole thing before placing the tank, matching your decor and avoiding problems with getting the blocks or plywood wet.

Certainly not as sophisticated as this, but very, very easy, and at least as strong.

Hmm, I don't know what kind of place it is - but I know we have a couple different places to get them here - One place sells all kinds of concrete things, and I think we can get them at Home Depot too. I might actually see if the one concrete specialty place has some kind of 'pillars' or something, but I imagine my project would wind up costing way more than just with cinder blocks. A neat idea though!

I am hopefully going to be getting some cinder blocks today. There is a guy who is giving away 50 of em this morning so he's gonna ask the guy that's coming to pick them up if he could leave nine for me Hopefully the guy says yes, then I'll go pick em up and get some of the stand started, wheee I'm starting to love these DIY projects lol.

I know! the DIY projects are so simple and can turn out so nice for so little money And hey, free cinder blocks are the best!!!

Personally YOU can build a closed one with a doorfor the same $$$. I prefer a closed bottom to hide wires and chems etc.

Well I got my cinder blocks Yay, I will be probably cutting ther 2 x 4's and plywood tomorrow and making sure everything is set, then next weekend I'll be able to get the paint, gonna go with black. I'll try and post some pics as I go. Can't wait, but im considering getting it set up and then paint it, I dunno, but I think i might do it that way so that all the materials for the stand aren't in the way.

I think the wiring could be hidden somewhat - if the bottom bored was deeper than the entire stand, allowing a 'shelf' directly behind the tank. You could then just have one or two wires dropping below that if necessary. I don't know, just a thought. I'd imagine that I'd have to put my breeder tank on the shelf below (I'd plant it up nice and make it neat of course) but you wouldn't see behind the unit anyways then. maybe 2 breeder tanks, one with snails and one with shrimp... Of course, then I'd have to go invest in a marble cray, and have a tank for him (100gal) aaaaand my DP tank... Oh, it's endless. I'd like to get a cross river puffer too, (Tetraodon pustulatus)... wall to wall tanks... at least ONE of those would be neat on a stand behind a couch, (fahaka or cross river) and the other one not too far away...

I had a 125g tank on cinder blocks for several years.

i'M shure it works , but unless the floor is true and level , you will have the worst time leveling it and the risk of it tiping over. large fish tanks can be and are dagerous... . ppl do invest in a propper stand. food for thought
