I think this is a common pleco .. aprox 12" .. the guy is a monster. The LFS had it in a 10 gal for 3 weeks and they "forgot" to tell me when I came in. Today, I noticed it and the staff said "ohh yea we were going to tell you last time you came in.."

Cost $19.99

Yes, they get massive. And they poop amazing amounts. I hope you have a tank big enough for him.

It sounds good. I just had to check it, because there are an awful lot of people buying those as babies, and don't have room to keep it. Unfortunately it's a very common species in the trade - most LFSs sell them. Few people have room for it as it grows, and it grows quickly! But it's a beautiful fish, and impressive when it grows up.

It is currently housed in a 67 gal section solo, but can be easily moved to the largest section if needed.

The largest section is home to 3 SAPs and a few plecos and Siamese algae eaters.

It may already be stunted, in which case the 60cm. is enough. if it is still growing strongly, you may have a problem.

Low nutrient value food results in larger intake with concomitant large output. A big pleco can decorate an entire large tank with garlands of poop. And they live forever. They are hard to resist. Keep an eye on the tank seams - they have been known to damage seals.

I've had 2 Gibbiceps in my time, they can be mean, moody and relentless.

This one I had for 13 years, it was a fish killer

The other one I had for about 5 years, it wasnt as aggressive as the other one (but it wasnt as old). You can see its size compared to an Oscar.

Both got to between 16-18"

Gravel bottom tanks arent too bad but a sand bottom tank makes it impossible to clean up after a Gibbicep.
