Just wondering how everyone has their cannister filters setup.

Im getting mxed reviews on different forums.

Some have the suction on the far left of the tank and the pressure on the far right,
Some have the spray bar mounted vertically. Some have the suction on the far left vertically and the pressure right above it horizontally.

And advice on the best setup would be?

The intake tube is crossed over the spray bars, so they don't pop out of the water.
Although I also run 2 AC 110s on those tanks too.

I think your SAP's would like the flow of haveing your intake on one side of the tank and your return on the other.

would i place the return on the opposite side horizontally or vertically?

Thats completely up to you just keep in mind trying to get the best uninterupted water flow across your tank. So pay attention to where your decor is and that kind of stuff. if your decor is flexible then the flow might flow right through it if its sturdy like rocks and such then you might want to have the flow going across the front of tank so its not interupted and slowed by the decor.

does anyone know why does eheim recommend the intake to be on the far left side vertically and the outtake to be horizontal on the left side as well?
Also would it be possible to split your intake tube lines into two so you can put one on each end of the tank?

is this how water flows in an aquarium? Is this why eheim recommends keeping the spraybars on the same side?

My guess is it would flow like that if they are placed that way. I would place the return on one side faceing the other side were the intake would be. i would probably do it vertical where it can flow across the entire tank without obstruction the rest of the water in your tank will flow aswell so dont worry about that. I think they would enjoy the current alot.

i tried it vertically but then the top of the aquarium doesnt get much agitation...

so i decided to stick with the spraybar horizontally so the surface can get agitation. Anyone know if this power head would be too much for my 38 gallon tank and the sap's?

I have read alot about the koralia being really nice little powerheads and easy to place and direct. The koralia 1 would be a good buy its weird its cheaper then the nano and has almost twice the flow rate. Im not sure if the nano will reach all the way across your tank but my guess it would do the job aswell just not as strong of a current. I would wait till someone who has experiance with them chimes in. But i here there great little powerheads.

my tank seem to not have enough surface agitation. would it be okay to have all three parts of the spraybar point upward moving the surface and then get a power head and install that deep in the tank for current?

the best way is trial and error. you know what you are looking for... play with it a but .. see if that helps and possibly you may need to compensate with an additional pump or spray bar for those dead zones.
