I'm seeing perfect little round holes in my Amazon swords lately.
Do you suppose my modestus are having some salad on occasion?

Also, a warning, which is probably unnecessary for all but us newbies. Don't put expensive little cherry shrimp in with your mid sized puffers....they apparently make a really dandy snack

Yeah my GSPs have done that to the java fern. Perfect round holes in the leaves.

I'm hoping the plant survives it. It's a huge sword with new plantlets coming off two extensions. Oh well...I love salad too, so I can't blame them much

I guess it's not at all unusual!

So in short, yes. This is a common problem. I cant have real plants in with my F8's. Just some java moss. Anything with leaves gets destroyed.

I think a Fake silk Plants is the best way

I noticed when I had my little Fahaka in my favourite planted tank that many of the plants in there ended up with holes on the leaves. I never seen him doing it, but it had to be him. I've since moved him into another tank, and my little Abei is in the planted tank now, but I don't think he's making any holes (not yet anyway).

And reefchik I learned the hard way in regards to shrimp with puffers. I went out and bought some expensive Bee shrimp, they were so beautiful, and I decided I wanted them in a tank where I could see them better, not stopping to think about the 2 hungry Cutcutia puffers that were in the tank at that time. Well let's just say that not many of my shrimp made it out of that tank. I did rescue a few and moved them, but I felt so stupid afterwards. I had the idea that because my dwarf puffers didn't seem interested in the shrimp that was in with them, that these other puffers might ignore the shrimp additions to their tank, but they VERY interested in them and probably even more so after they ate one or two and realised they tasted good.

My modestus loves the occasional bit of algae wafer which has helped somewhat, but he still feels it's his duty to occasionally go for a nibble.

I'm finding out my modestus will eat darn near anything I toss in their tank. So far, algae wafers, Red Bits (cyclopeeze bits), freeze dried krill, snails, shrimp, bloodworms. Even standard flake food. I want to try mussels soon.

Nice! My betta is like that thankfully. He gets a bit of almost everything the other fish are eating. Pellets for one meal and some random meat (product) for the other.
