I have a 45g with 2 gsp's and im in the process of filling it will LR, I have 6lbs so, im doing it slowly for now, gonna get another 5lbs soon. I am considering getting a chocolate chip seastar to add to it once i have everything settled. What are your opinions on those seastars??

May work with the puffers. Absolutely not reef safe--will eat any coral in it's path.

Any thing in its path which can be digested will, even snails and hermits and sleeping fish. Other than that its a really cool starfish! I wonder if the GSPs might try and eat some chips... Either way I would give it a shot if I had a GSP tank.

Wait till you are done adding LR, they are sensitive.

Wouldn't a GSP eat that. Cuz I was thinking of trying those tiny 3" red ones they're reef safe. And cheap atleast if I gets eaten.

The red linkias are reef safe but very difficult to keep alive. I'd leave them in the shop.

My tank will have just live rock so the star should be ok. I looked at a few the other day and man are they cute ) I will probably get it in about 2 months, gonna stock my tank with the rock slowly first. In my 45g is there anything else I can add fish wise in there if I have live rock, 2 gsp's and 1 chocolate chip seastar? Like maybe a cleaner fish or a goby that will stay small enough to hide in the LR? Just curious, thanks in advance

I think a wrasse, like the 6-line would be better than a goby that sits around a lot. Be sure you feed the star.

PP why are they hard to take care of? The Red linkias I mean. I read on a site recommended here that they just eat algaes and would be farely easy and are reef safe. I really wanted one. Why? Do they need to be target fed.




I think putting more fish in a 45 is pushing it. Your already pushing itwith 2 GSP in a 45g. Maybe some small fish but nothing too big

They eat the slime bacteria that grows on surfaces & LR.

OIC so then if I were to attempt, I should wait some time for all those goodies to grow then.

I've never been able to keep one alive for more than 6 months, even in a long-time established tank.
