I can't tell....does it look as if it is a growth of some sort or does it look separate from the body? It looks like a growth judging by the color, but I cannot see that close. Zoom in more. Haha. Just kidding. It's a good shot. Well see if you can give a little more info. Is it growing? Does it appear to be disconnecting? Let me know and I might be able to direct you to what it is.

Has it fallen off or is it still hanging out her backside. What food was last given. Looks pink like digested Krill.

Might be swelling from something lodged up in the good 'ol rectum. If that is the case....it will break down and they will work it out. I don't think it's swelling from a parasite or anything like that. Not 100% though.

I think the fish's mouth is too small for that to be a single piece of undigested food. I suspect it could be a prolapse, a small length of inside out intestine. Usually will go away by getting sucked back in on it own. DO NOT try to knock a prolapse off. Prolapse can be caused by constipation, so if you decide that's what it is, some epsom salt in the water should help clear out anything else stuck in there.

I'm thinking prolapse too.
It's attached almost certainly. If she was older I might think ovipositor, but she's only about an inch and half long.
The last thing she ate was bloodworms as far as I know. She could have gotten ahold of a couple small snails I put into the tank yesterday, too. Really small.
I just looked and it's still there. It wasn't there this morning, but I went to the grocery store for a bit and when I came home - there it was.
She acts fine. Like "feed me! NOW!"

I'd try the epsom salt, it's pretty much harmless. Bloodworms and snails make pretty dark poop, nothing like that.

Yes, I have been siphoning out lots of dark poop since these kids moved into the 'hood!
What is the dosing for epsom salts and do I need to take her to a QT tank to do it? Or can I dose the tank?

I like coming to this forum because the members here are so informative and brilliant..I often take mental notes..just so I can learn things..
But this one blows my mind for some reason...Prolapse? Who would have thought that such a thing could occur to a fish? I am writing this one down...
You guys are amazing
