Are you going to plant the CRAP out of it? If not, waste of money, you'll just be paying for all the wonderful time you'll be scraping The Most Algae in the World off your tank and decor.

HuH! Your 100% Right! Thanks for throwing that into perspective for me =)
Any suggestions though?
Something with a timer and blue leds would be nice...

That type of thing is just going to jack the prices way way up. Do you have a regular T8 hood now? You can get a T6 bulb for it, I have a very nice looking one, it's no T5 for sure, but it's better than a T8. For moon lights, you can actually just buy an blue LED fancy car-interior lighting kit from walmart(should be in automotive), install them into your current light fixture with all the space you'll save using a T6 bulb, and use separate 5$ cheapo mechanical pet light timers. To control when they go on and off. I'd say total cost... 30 or so for the bulb and timers, another 15 to 20 for the LED lighting kit, and an hour or two of your time to put together.

I have just a normal old school light, no idea what it is (2002ish model).. I actually already did that.. a strip of blue leds inside but I think my ballast is going. Thats why i was thinking an *all in one* but true the price would probably be nearing the 400$+ mark eh?
Another thought.. What if i just pull 2 bulbs out of that setup on kijiji?

Sure, that would be fine. That is a great price, and since you're also in Canada the shipping should be reasonable, so go for it if you want. I was just giving you the bargain basement option. This will also tempt you to go reef, just having such a good light sitting there, half it's potential unused...

Check out your local Petsmarts. They have the Hagen Glo T5 HO light bars on sale.

Wow, that's a nice fixture. That's a lot of light, you're getting into high tech there.

LOL I just want an all in one and my fixture wants to kick the bucket LoL
I figure thats pretty cheap 109$ brand new + shipping + duty .. probably 170$ all set and done but if i can get it locally for say ... 100$ i think i might be on to a win win situation

Another tip, the Big Al's in Oakville is corporate, so they'll match any Canadian online pricing... I would have a look at Pets and Ponds and J & L aquatics. Mops.ca also has their warehouse in Hamilton and allows pickups...

I'm pretty sure they hate me at the Oakville store, we always come in with online print outs
