I have just set up a nano reef tank. I am cycling it right now. I just have about 1\2in of sand and 5 pounds of live rock in it. I will upload pictures when i have access to a camera...

Nice. Any other specs? I love nano tanks. You should check out Nano-Reef.com. They have some pretty cool pictures (perhaps a source of inspiration).

i have a compact flourecent light fixture on it... I will be putting a 55g HOB filter on it soon. right now i have one rated for 30g on it. I think i will be getting a couple more pounds of live rock to fill it out more though. this is my first salt water tank.

I thought about doing the same- but such a tiny salt tank was too big a crash risk for me.

i figure if i can keep this alive, i can keep a big one alive. lol

As pufferpunk would prolly say bigger is better.

I came really close into making my 55 into a sw tank. I ended up getting the tank and filter for free. I have a friend who has a 125g sw and he gave me some sand and salt water. I dont have much money to throw into this right now, so i figured a small one would be best.

Make sure you top off daily or more, the SG change from evaporation is going to be quick.

yeah, my nano hasnt cost that much so far though. I got filter, tank for free. I cut the top out of glass myself, the light cost me $20 and the LR cost me $20.

That's more than my new $190 20 gallon!

The easiest way to do a simple auto top of is have a water jug above the tank with a air line siphoning the water down into the tank, use a needle valve to set the flow rate. Not pretty, but easy and cheap.

Contrary to popular belief, small tanks are really not that hard to manage, but if you're talking pico, it would be best to walk the other way .
