Has anyone ever used this skimmer? I am researching around for diferent types of skimmers and alot of info is pointing to useing ones with needle wheels. Plus was wandering if the micro-bubble protection really works.

I've been happy with the 2 125's I have HOB on my 90's. I keep hearing that they're not great but they draw out a lot of gunk.

Excellent skimmer but very sensitive to water height fluctuations in the tank & hard to dial in.

Thnx it will be a HOB skimmer till i can get the nerve for a sump and this is still in the distant future just trying to get my head around everything b4 i even attempt anything yet.

I might try to see if anyone will want to trade my pond pump maybe with some cash thrown in for a skimmer on CL that way i will have it handy when i get my nerve up.

I have a 220 run in sump, its okay. I would not run it HOB because the adjustment knob can leak and if it over skims, the water will get on the floor.

If you need a HOB skimmer look into the octopus line of skimmers, they are supposed to be very good.

With the larger skimmers, there is a plug on the bottom of the cup to add a drain line to a bigger container. I highly suggest using it.

thnx for the info guys/gals. I will be trying to get one of these in the next month then start putting money aside for the live rock.

Be careful, I had a customer setup their skimmer like that and it started overskimming while they were out and they ended up with about 5g of skimate on the carpet.

Wouldn't it do that to the cup though too?

This was a remora pro HOB (with out surface skimmer), they hooked it up to a 1g jug to collect skimate. They did a water change and then went out for dinner. The skimmer skimmed out about 3" of water from the whole tank. The carpet had to be shampooed.

On many skimmers if the collection cup fills it cant get anymore full and will flow back into the chamber, you might get some foam squirting out the lid. If you set up a remote collection jug then the skimmer cup never fills and the skimmer will continue producing till the pump runs dry. There are some remote collection cups that have a fill valve to prevent this, but I assume you are just talking about a jug.

I have personally had the cup of the CSS overflow many times.

I have my css's draining into 1 gallon jugs, and whenever I do anything that could cause overskimming, I set the 1 gallon jug in a 5 gallon bucket. I've only had the bucket overflow once

CSS is another story, thats why I dont recommend them HOB, also the red knob can leak.

The remora when not used with a jug is fool proof, only way it can leak is if you shoot the thing. From the looks of it the octopus HOB and bakpak are the same.

Hey, B... did you go with the Coralife Super Skimmer? I saw that they require a minimum of 8" between tank and wall... Would love to see a picture of the skimmer as a HOB to see what it's going to look like.
