Little Pod has died

Hi everyone,
It's been a very sad morning as Pod died sometime during the night.
I just wanted to let you all know since you have all been so helpful.
I shall give you all my tank details etc to see if I've missed anything.

I've had Pod 3 days in a 15 x 14 x 48 (inch) tank (30+ uk gallons) planted with anubias, java ferns, juncus repens and others I can't remember names of. There is also chunk of slate and several pieces of bogwood.
The tank originally was used as a species tank for purple kribensis.
The tank is currently freshwater with gravel substrate, fluval size 4 internal filter and a size 2 and 200watt heater.
The temperature is at 25*C
Both water tests I've done today say nitrates <5mg (much paler pink than on the chart), nitrites 0mg, ammonia 0mg, ph 7.5. My liquid kit doesn't do GH and KH but API sticks say GH 120, KH between 80 - 120.
Pod has been quite quiet since I got him except for initial yoyo-ing of the glass when he first went in.
I had tried to feed him with frozen bloodworm and a piece of shelled prawn. He ate no more than 5 bloodworm first day and nothing yesterday.
He seemed rather thin to me compared to pics I've seen plus he kept getting varying amounts of grey discolouration on and around his belly. He also had white/clear stringy poo the first day I had him, after eating the few bloodworm but no poo's since that I saw.
I suspected some kind of IPs but was assured by aquatic centre that he had already been treated...I still intended though to treat him myself with meds that arrived today.
Have I missed something or do you think he came from shop with bad case of IPs?
So sad he's gone....

As mentioned in my PM to you, I am VERY sorry for your loss. I honestly think he probably had IP's and the meds that the LFS used didn't do any good, and sometimes if the parasites have been in a puffer long enough, they are tough to get out and have done so much damage that the poor puffer cannot recover. Maybe this was the case with Poddington.

I do hope that you will try again with another puffer, they are lovely little fish with loads of personality. Sorry your first puffer experience had to end so badly. I think most of us have had the same experience at one time or another, although that doesn't make it any better for you. :(

Again, my sincere condolences for your loss. :sorry:

Thank you PPG....having just the one fish in the tank I became a lot more attached than I ever did with my tank of kribs.
I must admit that I have got hooked on puffers....not been to bed before 3 am reading about them last few days.
I need to get my head around the maths/chemistry etc of going over to brackish first before I try another puffer. It would be so much better if LFS sold them in BW as then the buyer could get the tank correct before the fish comes home.
