I have what looks like flat cocoons or a wolf spiders web on 2 of my rocks. Does anyone know what this could be? someone said it may be a bristle worm cocoon but I can't find any picture on web of that to see if that is what it is or not?

Lots of goodies can be found on live rock. It's alive!

Btw, is it true that bristle worms are not supposed to be eaten by puffers? I ask because a gluttonous dogface we had at the store when I was a pet shop associate loved them, he'd slurp them down fast as any earthworm, but he was the only one we had that ever touched them.

I am still nervous to feed my puffer earthworms. Worked out good for you?

Earthworms are the bulk of my larger puffers diet. I supplement with plenty of hard foods, as well, but with things like shrimp, krill, and mussels having so many nutrient problems, I honestly feel more comfortable making the bulk of their diet worms when I don't have enough snails, which is honestly most of the time.

No though that is pretty scarey looking. It's way more flat and on the rock not hanging off of it.

Thanks JP I went and joined I'm currently doing the hypo salinity for ick cause it was so rampant in my display tank I was going to lose everything if I didn't do something so I thought why not. So far I haven't lost anything else. and my stars and stripes puffer doesn't show any new spots. my heat is on 82 and my salinity is 0.018 so far all the copepods are still alive and my nitrate is 5, pH 8.2, nitrite 0 or close to and ammonia 0 or close.
I guess the cocoons are OK just curious what is in them I've tried to catch them out but no luck.

Please don't raise the temp for treating SW "ich". The parasite attacks their gills & it'll be hard enough for them to breath, never mind lessening the O2 content when you raise the heat in there. H=For hypo you must have the SG at 1.009. You're not doing this in your main tank, are you?

Yes at this point I feel I have no other choice the Ick has got to be in the sand by now.

That doesn't matter, it will die without a host.

The LFS said I could drop the salinity raise the heat and add 2 big air stones. They said if I raised the heat for 2 weeks it would kill it and I wouldn't need to drop the salinity past 16
