Delighted as tonight fed them prawn and one hand fed. Feel I need to get tongs as they squabbled a little. I place small pieces each by them, they seem pretty "tame" letting me get close gently.

I have a fondness for the irrubesco, I think they are nice little puffers. Sometimes males will chase one another away, especially during meal time, but I've never had any of mine cause any injuries, not even tatty fins. The females usually remain quite a bit smaller than the males, and the males can get fairly big. I think they are beautiful puffers. I also like that they are so easy to sex, too bad more puffers aren't as easy to identify which are male and which are female.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but the success of keeping these puffers is lots of plants and lots of places for them to hide. Mine always seemed to like hiding in half-cut coconut shells. I have three of those shells in my irrubesco tank now and you can see them peering out at you from in there. They also seem to know when it's meal time, all lining up at the glass waiting for their food. :D

Congratulations again Amy, you will enjoy them I think. :grats:

Woah... Swimz... Where've you been, buddy?

Really nice puffers! I love the Irrubesco, and they will most likely be my next project after I've got the Dwarfs, the Congo and the reef done.

I envy you. :P

Aw thanks peeps! I have about ohh 4-5 places that are caves or pots currently. Plan to add even more plants (actually some fake ones or a little denser cover). Thanks for all the great advice xxx

They seem very settled to me and quite happy with me approaching the tank etc. Havent seen another spar between them but feel it will be better when females are found and introduced.

One question I did have, what is the best way to feed in a big tank likethis? They are still at the fairly shy stage (though hand fed one yesterday until beaten up). Tonight I ripped small chunks placed near where they were.

p.s. they do have curly tails :) though they have fanned them also ;)

I have good luck with mine because I just put the food in and they all take their turns eating and it goes relatively well, sometimes one of the bigger males will sort of push everyone out of the way, but I make sure to put 2-3 small chunks of prawn in there, so the alpha puff can have his and the others can eat too. What's funny is watching them taking turns eating an earthworm! That makes me laugh. :ROFL2:

Small update, the two males have been doing well having occasional flare offs while I find them some women that are female and the same species. Saturday is hopefully the day, the LFS has 6 of the true irrubescos in (apparently) and managed to reserve them all to go pick two females at least if there are some. He better not sell them before then (like the other store that had "reserved them" then sold hours later grrr, why bother?) Luckily on good terms with this store and hopefully introduction of the females will bring out the males more and not bring out aggression too much but more interactive beahviour.
