GSP Q's

I'm looking for a puffer that has high personality. So maybe a GSP?
For a 40 gallon breeder tank, if I have LOTS of decor and hiding spaces..
Is it possible to house 2 GSPs?
If not, what kind of tankmates can I put with the GSP?
Or what other kind of puffers has personality like GSP?

30 gallons is the min to prevent stunting so no way to cram two into a 40 breeder. A 65 has the same footprint, so it uses the same hood/stand, and is large enough for the bioload of two, so if you want two, get a 65.

GSPs are typically intolerant of tankmates, but if you keep them at full marine some salt water fish are compatible.

40 is definitely way to small for two.
When it's marine though you could keep a GSP with a clownfish or two, or some small damsels or something.
My 4 GSPs are in low brackish right now (working my way up to marine) and I house them in a 120 gallon tank with a few mollies. They all get along well. I'll probably rehome my mollies when my puffers get larger though. :)

If you're not completely stuck on having a GSP, or having a brackish tank, you could go with an Abei puffer, they are freshwater only. They are very nice and mine is active and friendly. The only downside is that you can't have any tankmates with them either. I tried to have an Oto with mine and it tolerated it for a few days before ripping it's belly open and killing it. :?

F8's are great too, they've got a great personality. You could always do a tank with 2 F8's and some smaller brackish fish.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'll stick with one GSP. Is it okay to not go marine when they are full grown?

It's fine to keep it high-BW, but 50% weekly WC for that, can get quite $$$.

Ah then I guess GSP is not really a choice for me.

Is there other kind of puffers that will greet you when you approach like the GSP?

Dwarfs will, they are freshwater though. But with a 40 you could have at least 8.
