Hello Peeps
Out of interest has anyone ever kept one of these? I know there is the puff pedia that says volume of tank etc but there is limited knowledge and would love to hear your stories and experiences on them (the pics are far too cute)

I recently bought one
He's in a 29gallon tank with an Aquaclear 110 filter. He loves the high water flow and sits right by the filter.
Definitely a lurker, he spends a lot of time loafing about, but once there's food to be had he's all over it.
One of my friends decided I should try putting other fish in there- I was convinced he'd eat them so made him a deal that if he bought one he could put it in there. So he bought some cheap little silver dollar. Surprisingly the puffer hasn't touched it, and now I'm stuck with a silver dollar :/
Zim (my Turgidus) is very personable though, he gets very excited whenever I walk by his tank. He also loves my dog, lol.
His favorite foods are clams and crayfish
I have a few live plants in the tank and he hasn't touched them at all so far.

Hey hon thanks very much for that, he sounds absolutely wonderful (and cant believe he is living with a silver dollar! It just goes to show though he may turn you never know). Can I be naughty and ask for pics of said puff?

no pics yet :[ My camera broke and my boyfriend's is super old and when I try to take pictures of my fish you can't even tell they're fish, lol. New camera should be here in a week though. :]

Plenty of us have Turgudis puffers.

They mainly lay around all the time, and only really venture out if they are hungry. They do like good quality water, and a decent amount of current.. I think because they sit still so much they need that water moving with good flow and oxygen.

I've kept mine in a 20 gallon tank, and he is much happier in a 29, again, extra water volume. Happiest if he has a cave or two, currently he has a big pile of driftwood and he changes his hang out spot depending on his mood.

Mine has been kept with endlers, but he did eat them gradually.. I'd just notice one missing here or there.. never right away, just one every few months or so. His main diet is raw shrimp and nightcrawlers.

I also have one, same routine as the others. Likes the tightest caves he can get himself in to throughout the winter months and dependent on mood. In the spring he likes to sit under a ceramic mangrove I have in the tank and he will occasionally make depressions in the grave and sit there (odd huh,lol) He has been know to come say "hi" first thing in the morning, I keep his tank in the space between the bed and the wall, and when I move he comes to the glass and gives a little body wiggle and then goes back to hanging out. I agree with the extra water volume and higher current. I feed nightcrawlers and raw people shrimp along with the occasional fiddler crab (he goes gonzo for these Leon vs The Crab),gut loaded ghost shrimp, and I will throw in a hand full of mid size snails every week that he will hunt and eat at night (I hear the crunch)....

Overall a very pleasant fish and well worth the investment if you can get one. I have been thinking of adding a second one if I would get off my butt and search for one....
