I have a new GSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's about half an inch, cost £7 and has now been 'dripped up' to my scat (3x one inch green Scats) tank with an s.g. of 1.010 (that's where I've been holding anything to go to high end brackish/full marine due to transferring filter media between tanks). The scats were mobbing it slightly so I fed the scats some bloodworm/microworm - frozen. Guess who elbowed them out of the way?! Looks like a mini sumo now

Coud you believe my lfs had put them in 1.004 brackish water - must be a first!

These GSP's look in very good condition, full tums, normal poo and the all important light green crest.

So I now have the 'green and spotty tank' because everybody in it is green and spotty!



If anything goes too pear shaped, I will transfer the scats to the 240l because that is going to be free as soon as I finish the lid for the pacu vat. It's charging around with them just for now!

Brackish with marine salt?

Congrats on your new GSP Mr Soggy, that's great. Also very good they look healthy and were already in brackish water, very good in fact.

I do hope that you have a huge tank with massive filtration. Scats are quite large and are even messier than puffers.

How big is the tank?

Adult scats are SCARY.

PP, yes, the dealer said it's Instant Ocean marine salt not aquarium salt. My tank is at 1.010 sg measured by refractometer so it was a long drip.

I'm expecting the scats to get to dinner plate size - eight to ten inches at least so they'll be needing a 5 by 2 by 2 at least.

They are 1 inch now, in a 40g with the 1/2 inch GSP - there are mature two external canister filters connected and two internals. My 240l tank will be free after next weekend and the scats can go in there. Not sure about the puffer - may leave it in the 40g so it has enough space. It's left the scats alone for now but will attack at some point.

Another option is to take them all to full marine and run a tank as a FOWLR. I've got about 40kg of LR sitting in a tank and three skimmers not really doing much apart from aereating water. Not a massive ammount of LR but enough to start...

I'm just more interested in 'brackish' fish than the more common marines.

I was fiddling about with a home made filter for the 350g vat this last weekend - it's a PE dustbin fed by a pond pump but gravity return through a stand pipe. I have a couple of small pond filters that I could use on this but I'd get much more media in the DIY version. I'm also checking the temperature for several days to see if the heating in there will hold it at 24C. It's quite a large thermal mass.

Caught it between two koi nets so quickly it didn't know what hit it. The stock tank is next to it's old tank, so it was just a case of 'grab' and 'splash'. Didn't even get wet. Much.

Went with a pond pump connected to a pond filter with outlets just above water level on granite blocks at a corner inside the tank instead of the dustbin outside. For now. Good place to keep the heaters where they won't get bashed. Checked the heaters remained immersed if the hose comes away from the pump and the water level in the filter chamber drops to the vat level. All the old tank filters were added plus the substrate. If it had bacteria - it went in.

Took a whole bottle of dechorinator when filling...

More space for the scats or the puffer in it's old tank - as soon as I can cycle it for BW. I'm sure the scats have grown visibly in the last two weeks, cute little monsters though and the GSP has left 'em alone. So far.

Here u go, looks rubbish but is keeping the ammonia under control. Only 300W of heating at this time of year...

Let me know how you get on PP - I was thinking to change the gravel in my GSps tank to aragonite sand, but not sure I could face the upheaval!
