Check the pufferpedia in the top menu bar- the button that says "learn". I'd search around but my iphone can't activate some of the buttons in the menu up there.

I have tried that, but cannot find this puffer...

My guess is they are not nefastus, but really modestus/silus. Haven't seen nefastus available, ever. Too bad there's no pic. I'd never buy a fish online with no pic.

+1 to PP's comments. I don't think I have seen this fish. I bought one labeled as such, but it was likely modestus.

It probably is not established in the trade. If it were confirmed as valid ID, the fish would be very $$$ on rarely in the trade alone.

i agree with PP
even with a pic it will probably be impossible to tell the difference. modestus/silus are great active little guys(aka trouble makers ) freshwater mine cost about 6 bucks. I hope they aren't calling this nefastus and charging a premium price.

Ok, I think I am gonna pass...Actually I would not mind a modestus and I really want a silus...but this seller is giving too many red flags regarding this fish.

First red flag is the price is on $6 plus shipping..the same I would pay for a modestus..

Next red flag..he WILL NOT give me a pic!! I asked for one and this was his response..

"Sorry-i cant get a decent photo of them . Ive tried a few times. They are small, the fish room is dark and they move fast!

he might be telling you the truth about the pic(but as you said never a good sign). There is the slim possibility it is a nefastus and he doesnt know that they are rare in the hobby.or he is just going on the info given to him? It doesn't sound like criminal intent to me, just a little negligent, as i think the distinguishing factor between the species is the difference in fin rays lol
