Reccomend a puffer please?

Hello,
I have a 30gallon breeder and I think I want to try my first puffer. The tank is 36x18x12. I have been keeping Tanganyika cichlids for a year and other fish for about three so I am experienced in fish keeping.
Could you suggest a freshwater puffer?
I am worried that the DP are too small to be of interest.
Thanks,
Aaron

Are you interested in an active hunter or a lurker type? Browse the PufferPedia, there's tons listed in there

Look above, under the Learn Tab, for the Pufferpedia. Good profiles in there. You're going to have to cycle that tank though, before you add a puffer.

Oops, I should have included preferences.
I am looking for an active "hunter". I was first interested in the GSP, but I am starting a salt tank soon and I am not ready to deal with two high maintenance tanks. I don't mean puffers are not high maintenance, but what is a water change with a python
For right now I want a puffer that will be totally happy in a 30g (Another reason I don't want a GPS, since that is their min tank size) and show some interesting hunting behavior. Maybe a DP is the best match?

Also the tank is already cycled. Running an eheim 22 uh forget the second number. Its rated up to 65 gallons.

haha yeah, I like this forum already. You guys are blunt and you ask a ton of questions.
Right now there is only one julie transcriptus, but I am going to pull a large sponge filter off the 112 gallon tank. The large sponge should handle the extra bio load until the canister catches up, unless I am totally under estimating puffer bio loads.
I have plenty of options for increasing the bacteria count in the tank if you guys think I will need it. I have 5 tanks running at the moment.
Will the Canister filter suffice for the 30gal (its rated up to 65 gallons) or should I add some filtration?
So are DP interesting?

Good job, that will do! I instant-cycle all my tanks with filter material from other tanks (benefit of "multiple tank syndrome"). DPs are cool, if you like little friends.

I am stuck between wanting a bigger puffer, but also wanting plenty of room for them. With only 30gal most of the larger puffers would only be content from what I have read. The DP on the other hand seem like they would be happy with the large footprint.
I love my Tangs so I don't want to give up any of the bigger tanks for puffers

sorry guys.

Guess I am going with DPs. How many would you do in the 36x18x12?
If I don't like them I can just flush them down the toilet like I do most of my other fish........JK!!!!!

That tank has a nice BIG footprint. I'd say 6 would be no problem at all, maybe even 8.
