hey all, what do we know about live rock?

I brought a lump a few weeks ago from local shop, i was told it was ok in brackish water, ok so this info was wrong and nitrite went up,

I have removed the rock and scrubed all the dead stuff of it, it is now under the sink, what do i do with it till i'm up to around 1.020 and above? i have found info about it coming back to life?

YEs it will come back to life. I have dead LAce rock in my puffer tank. I would rinse and dry many times to make sure that it completely dead now and add if you you feel it all died off. When you get to 1.020 or maybe a lil higher thou because the live rock may be kept at 1.024 IDK it that would harm the rock and cause a lil die of or not. Unless acclimated. But NEways when your sure no more die off is occuring on the rock you have can add it. Then when it Full Marine add more live rock and it will seed that dead rock. If i were you id try to get half your money back for that since dead rock is uasually half the price of live rock where Im at. Thats BS even if you cantget a few bucks back or store credit, Id make sure the guy who sold it to you was corrected to prevent another sale like that. :o

You have to make sure it is totally dead rock, if you want to use it in your BW tank. Shy not just return it to where you got the bad info? The only way to make sure all the life is totally dead in there BEFORE you put it into a tank is to leave it to dry out (preferably in the sun), until there is absolutely no smell left to it. This may take quite some time.
