Aren't BB gobies the fish that are often kept with F8s as they're brackish?

ive heard both opinions... and the guy at the petstore said he has always kept them fresh. he has a brackish section with different puffers and other types of fish as well, and chooses to keep his bb gobies fresh... so... i dunno... they should be okay in that aspect, i was just checking for compatibility purposes

it sounds like they are like mollies, they can be kept in either, they may enjoy light brackish, but it doesnt hurt to keep in fw.... please correct me if im wrong.

there isnt much i could do about it now though, the store i went to was almost an hour away

My DP ate all the cherry shrimp. They just kept disapoearing! I'd just hope those gobies don't get sick from lack of higher SG. If they die and you don't notice, your water quality will go down with a quickness- thus DP would be affected.

i test my water religiously... so i dont think that would be an issue... and my tank has both cherry shrimp and ghost shrimp, ive never seen any DPs give the shrimp even the slightest interest... i did ask around on here before i got them though just to make sure they would be okay... and most people seemed to have luck with them... i think it must be because i added more than just a couple at one time, so they were kind of out numbered, i experimented with ghosties first since they are cheaper then got the cherries lol.

I did some quick research and it depends on the species. They ARE BW fish but a certain species can tolerate FW. Do a google search, find out what species you have, then act accordingly. If it's the FW tolerant one then it will probably live a life like RTR's FW F8s. They can do it but they'll never be as healthy as they would be in BW. I wouldn't do that.

If it's the other species then it really needs to be in BW.

BB gobies also do much better in groups and not as singletons.

Is there a reason why you can't do your own search beforehand so you can make responsible purchases? Or even after the purchase as there's no reason that others should do it for you.

Yeah, NEVER trust the advice given at a LFS. I'm not too sure any fish is safe with DPs.

uhh... thanks for the flame flutter. i asked the guy at the petstore... i also have looked on google and have seen both opinions. and since they were OPINIONS, i just wanted to see what people here thought of it... possibly from someone who currently has them in their tanks... weather it be fw or bw.

im sorry you woke up grumpy this morning... but you should really calm down... i got one because the guy at the pet store seemed to be very confident in telling me they would be okay... which i know its not saying much, but please excuse me if i didnt drag my computer along to the pet store thats over an hour away from my home... get over your self. you seem like you really like to bash people that may or may not know more about fish than you. people will like you better if you approach it in a nicer way.

ive heard of plenty of people successfully having them in fw tanks... i was just curious if anyone currently had them. ugh!

Is this what you're so worked up about? LOL. I don't see what's wrong with it. It's simple and to the point. It's not the first time you've brought something home that you don't know about. I don't see why you feel so insulted, I didn't say anything bad to you. On the other hand you've turned around and insulted me. As for saying that I like to bash people, please do show examples as I don't remember doing that. I also don't care if you like me or not, no offense.

ETA: I did not intent to offend you in any way and I am sorry you feel that way.

Just be glad that Flutter got yo you before I did. I read the thread earlier, and decided that any response from me would be so negative that your feelings would be hurt and so you would ignore the advice anyway.

Advice: Never buy any fish whose needs you do not know already, and know up front that you can house and keep well, and for which you have QT space immediately available.

Corollary: Never accept the word of any, repeat any, store employee or owner that a given fish is acceptable in such and such tank of yours. They are paid (if employees), or get even more of your money if they own the place. Everybody tends to operate in their own best interest. Store owners and employees operate on the basis of sales, or they go out of business.

FWIW

I admit that I have though about it. But it would sound like the rant it would in fact be.

At some point folks just have to take responsibility for their own actions. This is basically incompatible with modern society which is geared to instant everything. You have a problem, pop a pill or pick up some quack instant cure from the LFS and post it all on Facebook or one of your blogs. Flash: Biology and microecologies do not work that way. Homeostasis is not instant. It never has been and never will be. Instant setup of a mature aquarium is functionally impossible. All the LFS shelves of products cannot and will not achieve that goal.

Basically it is an issue of personal responsibility and of the need for forethought and planning. If you cannot or will not invest time and thought and planning and accept the fallout for your own choices, there will always be issues that could have been avoided. That goes far beyond just aquarium keeping. That is basic lifestyle choice.

Those are not, I hope,TPF library reading materials.
