I went to the LFS today to pick up my weekly salad mix and foud out that what supplier they are using. I called the supplier and found out that they have DPs in stock! They aslo had GSP and F8s but I'm not going the GSP route again.

So I have 3 Qs:
1) I was thinking of using the SECOND pic as the DP home: 65 gal Beach House themed tank. Is it heavily planted enough? Or should I move some plants ofer frim the fist pic?

2) How active are these guys? I don't want them going over the edge / lip of the tank and end up somewhere else.

3) Should I ditch the DP idea all together and try for a lurker?

Both of those tanks are very nice. Why would you think the puffers would end up outside of the tank? Is the water level that high? I don't understand. I've never known a DP to jump, but there's always a first time for everything I suppose.
What are you going to do with the first tank (first pic)? It's very pretty, lovely set up. I think dwarf puffers will be happy in either of those. If you wanted a lurker in there, I think you'd have to open it up a bit, make more space for them to "lurk".

All hunter-predators are active and curious and into exploration. Overflows and such are not the thing for puffer tanks unless securely screened - which is a setup and upkeep issue. Plus, no puffer should ever go into an operating system. QT is not an option, it is a necessity. Too many have parasites, even tank-bred DPs.

All the plants are along the front pane of the glass to I can guage the root groth and transplant them later. There is lots of space in either section but because of the camera angle it doesn't look like it.

As for "jumping the tank"; all the tanks are connected with a very strong weater flow across the top that then cascades into the next tank. Fish that get caught in that near the edge end up re-homed by accident

So it's similar to the tanks that LFS's have plants in, that go down the line on an angle going lower as you do down the line ?

That is correct.. I purchased it from an LFS that had closed

As RTR mentioned ... maybe I should screen in the sides... finish the egg crate for an emersive plant barrier

Yup, I would expect the DPs to end up in the terminal tank of the system, after going over and under all the weirs - if that is possible.

I have a small problem with Dwarf Neon Rainbow fry. The eggs are pretty strong. Tiny fry show up in any of the ten tanks in the system. To get to the last three, they have to live through at least one impeller. But they sometimes do. The eggs sneak out of the breeding tier when the fishkeeper is lazy and removes sponges (barriers) for rinsing without killing the current through the whole system.

I did that today!

I noticed that the prefilter barrier was starting to get clogged and I removed the media ... WOOSH! The water flow dramatically increased and I am lucky I didn't get a fish caught in there again

Or a flood. Bee there, done that, but would be too embarrassed to wear the T-shirt.
