I recently bought a red eye puffer baby. I already have 1 GSP and 1 figure 8. The baby red eye whom i have named baby girl is about a half an inch in length. I would also like to get a male red eye and a red saddled puffer. what size tank would you recommend for these wonderful fish? thanks

I hope the puffers are housed in separate tanks?

For the GSP, 30-long minimum tank, a 50 might be optimum. The fish would start light light BW and move slowly up to high BW or full SW.

For the F-8, a 15 would do well, a 20-long would be luxurious. Light BW.

For a pair of red-eyes, I'd likely use a heavily planted 20-long. FW.

What is a red saddle puffer?

Only puff that has 'saddle' in the names that I can think of are the Saddleback tobies, which are marine species.

Fugu's are a risk by themselves. They are too unpredictable. I believe only one person on the forum has successfully kept one alive.

I just saw a beautiful one a couple of days ago. Kept in FW.... at the LFS. Tried to tell them it was SW but.... *shrugs* I wonder how long they'd survive in FW.

Maybe the 'saddled' puffer is Tetraodon fluviatilis as they can sometimes have quite large patches on their backs? Although there's nothing very 'red' about them

Other then their fins...which usually are more like and orange hue.

i lost my red eye to a snail tonight. can you belive that a snail think ill go cry now

by the way the red saddle i mentioned was found at http://www.aquascapeonline.com a very pretty fish but then again im partial to puffers

It's most likely that the snail was eating the puffer after it was dead. Please don't buy that 'red saddle' puffer, it will not last.

I agree, do not try to replace that puffer with the same. Even the most expert puffer keepers aren't able to keep them alive for more than a few months. You snail was just eating the carcass.
