I just got 2 gsp puffers and they are in their new home. I was told at the fish place that my 20g would good enough for these guys, but after reading the posts here I'm really worried :O( Will they be ok together? We dont have any other tanks atm and I would really like to kepp both of em. Is it possible to keep them both in a 20g?

As juvies, they are OK until they reach about 2". Then they will need 30g ea, minimum.

How did you cycle the tank for them?

The tank was already cycled, i switched it to brackish, its at 1.004 gravity and 6 salinity atm. I will be upgrading to a bigger tank sometime this month when we get more money. They are doing pretty good so far and are eating nicely too. I will be doing a quick 15% water change this week to.

Did you raise the salinity all at one go?

Oh, and I would suggest more like 50% for weekly water changes. Puffers are super-messy.

Ok so I will be getting a 40g hopefully this month for my 2 GSP. What I want to know is if for now till I get the new tank will they be fine in the 20g for bit? They are both eating really good atm. My salinity test was 1.008 after I did a 20% water change last night. I'm really excited to get my new my new tank. I can only go as big as a 40g though. But I'll post more if I have any other questions or tid bits.

Be careful about upping the s.g. too quickly. If you raise it by more than like .002 a week you can cause the tank to crash and have to start the cycling process all over.
40 gallon would still be a bit too small in the long run. If it's the absolute biggest you can get you'd be better off returning one of the puffers and having just one in the 40 gallon with a few mollies or something.
