i just found him stuck to the filter intake (penguin 200)

no idea how long he's been there but i pushed him off and now he's basically just floating around with the current. his fins are flapping but he's just floating around, bumping into stuff, going upside down etc. is there any hope for him?

Oh my, this is the 2nd posting I've read today where someone's puffer has died after they've posted the question. I am so sorry for your loss.

that stinks... sorry for your loss i was doing maintenance on my filter once and the intake tube that sits in the tank came off somehow, leaving an exposed hole in the tank. i didnt notice, im usually very anal making sure everything looks ok and everything is tight, and like ten minutes later i heard my filter making this griding noise like it was running dry. went over to the tank and unplugged my filter as i always do if i hear something not normal. didnt see anything wrong other than the open end tube in the tank. then i took the whole intake off and saw the tail of one of my F8 puffers sticking out very close to where he would have been tore up by the impellor. he was air tight in there so i literally took the other end of the tube and blew into it while holding his end of the tube in the water. he shot out, i dont think he puffed up amazingly, and he is still alive to this day. that was about a year ago, he still has a scar like mark on each side of him from the tube, but hes a happy puffer still!

So sorry for your loss, I lost a molly to that same problem...thank goodness I didn't have my puffers yet..Now I take a sponge that's meant for the filter and cut a hole in the middle and stop right before i cut through the bottom. I stick this over the filter so that no fish can be sucked in

DSMDylan..... If the tank was within what's considered good water parameters and he didn't have other fish with him in less than 30g he should be healthy and able to scoot off the filter. Does the filter have a strong suction try cutting a piece of sponge with a hole in it and put it on the intake( fluval sponge at LFS/ Not kitchen sponges they sometimes contain chemicals and dyes or soap), so that wont happen to really small fish in big tanks with juggernaut filter intakes.

+1, how has he been acting lately? Eating & swimming normally? Parameters? Water change schedule?

after he was back to swimming around and not in the filter thats exactly what i thought the whole thing seemed like. would have loved to see this whole thing happen from someone elses perspective so i can see how this whole thing went looked.
