2 Male DP's.. update

Updated to say that they're now residing in 48 litres, and will hope that one doesn't have to move to Auto 8) but if it does then it will.

Thanks all for your advice and support. Will post pics of tank soon. I'm really pleased with it, slate cave, rocks, plants, lots to break it all up.

Hi everyone,
as those of you who have welcomed me and had a good chin wag on my DP thread know. I'm new to DP's and DH bought me 2 this week.

Well - after chatting to Auto on PM with a couple of pics - it seems I may have 2 boys on my hands. :?

Now, I'm in a dilemma as to whether to take one back (not really keen on doing this in case they kill it rather than re-sell). Or even if I'd know a girl puffer to be honest! lol
The other option is to try and keep them, but maybe move them into a bigger tank - I've laid the groundwork for this idea to my DH lol. I have a 2 foot tank with 2 goldfish in it.. I inherited them along with one other who sadly passed away due to swim bladder. We've had them a few years now and they were knocking around a fair time before that. Anyway, I could downgrade them to the 21L that the puffs are in, and move the puffs to the 2' which if I remember is around 48L but might be wrong there.

Would it work? What are your thoughts / experiences?

Here are the pics,

Excuse the media in the background I'm trying to keep as much bacteria in there as poss so put some in from my 3' tank which is is 3 years old.

Sorry, 21l is waaaaaay too small for 2 goldfish, they say they need 30 GALLONS each to thrive...

Yeah, too small. 20g each for fancies, way more for single-tail varieties. http://www.ultimatebettas.com/index.php?showtopic=45531

There is a user around here, I think mostly she lurks, called APOCRYPHA. She had two males in a 38g that was so heavily planted that there was just no open space anywhere at all, absolutely gorgeous. The males still wound up fighting. There's a post on it around here; it was several months ago.

I just did a quick search and came up with nothing. Perhaps you could find it and/or double check the spelling of the name. I'd love to see pictures of the tank.

Looks like 2 males to me (eye wrinkles). Before you assume they kill fish they take back, find out.

If you dont go for a bigger tank - and end up needing to take one back - find out what they will do with him - if they wont take him or say they will dispose of him etc then let me know as ill have him off you - could add him to the 17dps i have here lol

Actually, goldfish are my main thing and have been for a while, and fancies need 10 gals each. Single tails need 20 gals each since they need swimming room more than the fancies. Just a FYI

You could just buy another tank (even just 5g) and separate them...

I've seen full-grown orandas with bodies the size of my fist. Can't imagine one in a 10g... :(

Well yea they do grow out of them. But most people dont keep one goldfish. they dont like being alone. ten gals per fish.

That's not enough to support their bioload. And single-tail varieties can get MASSIVE - 20g just isn't enough.

thanks everyone. the goldfish are fancy and the reason we bought bigger tank for them was to give them space, happy for them to keep their home jist wondered if it was a solution.
Auto - will call LFS and use you if not happy with their answer. I can transport not a prob.

see what happens yeah - but make sure they are honest with you - as some say yeah we take them back - but their policys can say no resale - or have to dispose of fish , they could also say they will take it back and put up for adoption , but the problems can be when they dont have a spare tank free for your fish -

see what they say and see if they have a female there - also let us know how many they have left there lol
